Space and Capital Planning

In alignment with the UIC Space and Capital Planning Policy that was passed in the Fall of 2021, the Planning and Design team of the Office of Planning, Sustainability and Project Management (PSPM) led a university-wide space and capital planning process to understand the space needs and planned capital projects of each college and major unit in support of their strategic plans.

The PSPM team met multiple times with each of UIC’s 16 colleges and 8 major support or auxiliary units to compile the information in this FY22 Space and Capital Plan.  The report includes a prioritized list of capital projects with committed funding plans for the Chicago and regional campuses, which comprises over 178 buildings and approximately15 million gross square feet of space.

The FY22 Space and Capital Plan represents the first time that PSPM has worked to engage all units in a coordinated, cross-campus capital planning process and will be replicated annually to ensure that the University has a comprehensive understanding of space needs and planned capital projects so that resources can be prioritized in support of the strategic priorities of the University of Illinois Chicago.

Below is a generalized timeline of the annual space and capital planning process:
